HOLY SPIRIT REVEALED THE TIME 1:09 (19 and 109)
HEBREW 19 👉🏻 ibchah 👉🏻 point, glittering, brandishing of a sword
The solitary occurrence of אִבְחָה appears in Ezekiel 21:15, situated within the prophet’s extended “sword oracle” (Ezekiel 21:1-17). Here Ezekiel dramatizes the Babylonian blade poised against Judah. Against the backdrop of mounting geopolitical tension (circa 588-586 B.C.), the term brings the terror of imminent judgment into sharp focus.
Ezekiel 21:15: “So that hearts may melt and many will stumble, I have stationed the sword at every gate. Ah! It is made to flash like lightning; it is drawn for slaughter.”
The sudden appearance of this rarely used noun heightens the sense of catastrophic loss. By choosing a word that occurs nowhere else, the Spirit underscores the uniqueness and finality of the sentence about to fall.
The verse marries the language of lethal violence with the brilliance of lightning—echoing Deuteronomy 32:41 (“My sword flashes”) and foreshadowing Revelation 19:15, where the Warrior-King’s sword executes justice.
The polished sword “flashing” evokes a searing visual image. Hearts melt (cf. Joshua 2:11) and knees buckle (Nahum 2:10), demonstrating the visceral effect divine judgment produces.
אִבְחָה anticipates the indiscriminate devastation awaiting both royal and commoner.
The sword is explicitly “appointed” by God (Ezekiel 21:3-5). Human armies serve as the Lord’s rod; therefore, the judgment is righteous, not arbitrary.
Though the oracle is stern, it functions pastorally by calling the remnant to repentance (Ezekiel 21:6-7). The singular noun presses home the urgency—there will be no second chance once the sword strikes.

The Hebrew verb אָדַב depicts a deep inner wounding that issues in pining, grieving, or languishing. Its lone appearance in Scripture accentuates a heart-level sorrow produced by divine judgment, illustrating how sin’s consequences reach beyond the physical to afflict the spirit.

HEBREW 922 👉🏻 bohu 👉🏻 void, emptiness, waste, an undistinguishable ruin
Describes an uninhabitable emptiness—an evacuated state devoid of structure, order, or life. When paired with תֹּהוּ (tohu, “formlessness”), it conveys total desolation: first in the primordial creation scene, then in prophetic scenes of judgment. Unlike mere “nothingness,” bohu depicts a tangible ruin that still awaits—or has forfeited—the shaping hand of God.
Ordered Creation out of Chaos: Scripture’s opening verse announces that God “created the heavens and the earth,” yet verse 2 depicts the raw, undifferentiated state that follows. Bohu here is not evil but a canvas awaiting divine artistry; when God speaks, emptiness receives form, fullness, and blessing. Thus, bohu underscores the Creator’s sovereignty: disorder exists only until God commands order.
Judgment That Reverses Creation: Isaiah and Jeremiah employ bohu to show that persistent rebellion can drag an ordered realm back toward the uninhabitable void. The judgeship of God dismantles what sin has polluted, illustrating the moral structure woven into the universe. The prophets invoke Genesis language deliberately; if God once subdued chaos to form a habitable world, He can also withdraw His sustaining word, allowing land and society to re-enter chaos.
Eschatological Warning and Hope: The reversal implied by bohu is not final for God’s covenant people. Jeremiah’s vision of a “formless and void” earth is followed by promises of restoration (Jeremiah 4:27; 31:35-37). The implication: God can re-create after judgment just as He created in the beginning. Bohu therefore stands as a threshold—either to a condemned wasteland or to renewed creation under divine grace.
John 1:1-5 echoes Genesis: the Word brings light into darkness. At Calvary a midday darkness descends (Matthew 27:45), symbolizing creation’s unraveling, yet the resurrection inaugurates new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Thus, Jesus bears the bohu of judgment to grant His people the fullness of life.
